We both have several projects on the go, but our current project is happening 1200 kilometres apart. In Toronto, and Tennessee two part of the same project are taking shape. We are both focused on cleaning up our waterways. We realize that our cleanups not only help the delicate ecosystems that are in our lakes and rivers, but we are catching the trash before it can get out to our oceans and create even bigger problems. The amount of trash that we clean up is pretty overwhelming. During our cleanups we have found everything from tires to road construction signs in the water. The items we find most are what worry us in the biggest way. Over and over we find single use plastics. Water bottles, utensils, straws, take out drink cups, packaging, grocery store plastic bags, balloons, and cigarette butts just to name some. So we have decided to team up and bring awareness to what we are finding. Although the cleanups are important, we are only two people, and as fast as we pick up the plastic, more is there to be cleaned up. That’s why we believe that education and awareness are equally as important as our cleanups. The more people understand about single use plastics, and what they are doing to our planet, the more they will want to help clean them up, and stop using them in their own day to day lives.
